Boston Biochem is a fast-paced, rapidly growing subsidiary of R&D Systems, Inc. with extensive expertise in the disciplines of protein biochemistry. Boston Biochem develops a full range of specialized reagents for the study of the ubiquitin-proteasome and related pathways.
We are currently recruiting for the following positions:
Product Manager
We seek a highly motivated and experienced Product Manager. The Product manager estimates consumer demand for products, identifies potential customers, stays informed about competitors and competing products, develops pricing strategies and oversees product development. They also work with advertising to promote our goods and services.
The Product Manager is expected to increase the profitability of existing products to develop new products for the company by identifying new product opportunities. Additionally, the Product Manager must identify market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers and developing partner relationships. The Product Manager is expected to Analyze the viability of requests for customized products/OEMs, and launch where appropriate. The Product Manager will manage products profit and loss, and also determine the business development strategy.
The Product Manager must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. Developing and implementing a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute. The Product Manager will work with Operations to ensure that agreed service levels are in place for timely customer delivery of specific products and may provide assistance to technical support team where appropriate. The Product Manager must have a working understanding of product groups, functions, and research uses.
Requires a BA/BS and 5+ years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees in science or business are a plus.
Scientist II
We seek a highly motivated and experienced protein biochemist to work independently and contribute to all aspects of ongoing research and development for individual products in the form of proteins or active enzymes, from beginning to end. Candidate should be familiar with optimizing source - whether expression system or native, to purification methods development, to extensive characterization and testing of final product.
The candidate must have strong expertise in protein expression and production, FPLC and HPLC protein purification, method development and optimization, protein quantitation, modification and enzyme analysis. Experience with fluorescent or FRET-baed assays is a plus. This individual is expected to initiate, plan and execute critical scientific research and development projects independently. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills will be required for documentation of data and internal report writing, drafting of SOP's, slide and poster preparation, and external representation of the company at conferences or with commercial partners. Strong organization, ability to multitask, and project management skills are essential to work within our interactive and dynamic team environment. Additionally, the cadidate should have highly proficient problem solving and analytical skills and be able to use technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals.
Requires a Ph.D in the life sciences or biochemistry with a focus on cell signaling as an area of specialty, with 2-5 years post-graduate experience in academia and/or industry.
Senior Research Associate, Biochemistry/Protein Purification
Responsibilities will include the expression and purification of target proteins from recombinant systems (bacterial,yeast, insect cells) as well as natural sources. The candidate should have familiarity with general protein production and optimization (small and large-scale fermentation) and expression analysis. Hands-on experience and scientific knowledge in protein purification techniques including (extract preparation, inclusion body preparation, clarification, filtration, buffer exchange) and column chromatography (AKTA FPLC operation, ion exchange, gel filtration, affinity, etc.) is essential. Additional skills required for protein analysis include SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, spectrophotometry, quantitation, modification and enzyme assays. Work will be carefully documented in detailed reports.
Candidate must have a BA/BS or MS in life sciences with 2-5 years relevant industrial experience. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Excellent communication, organization and collaborative skills are vital.
