Boston Biochem is a fast-paced, rapidly growing and privately owned company with extensive expertise in the disciplines of protein biochemistry. Boston Biochem manufactures a full range of specialized reagents for the study of the ubiquitin-proteasome and related pathways. We also offer comprehensive custom services in the areas of fermentation, protein purification, protein expression, protein modification and characterization. Both divisions of the business facilitate the drug discovery efforts of the international biomedical research community. Boston Biochem is an equal opportunity employer.
We are currently recruiting for the following positions:
Research Assistant - NEW
Major responsibilities include assisting in the lab with various tasks including basic lab maintenance and organization, preparing media and stock solutions. The candidate will also be trained to perform basic SOP procedures such as recombinant protein expression in E.coli and general protein analysis (solubility analysis, SDS‐PAGE, Western blotting, spectophotometry, quantitation). This is an opportunity to work in a fast paced exciting environment while learning many different aspects of protein biochemistry.
Successful candidates will have a familiarity with general biochemistry techniques, excellent attention to detail, and a desire and motivation to learn. Candidate must be highly organized, able to multitask, work independently and have good interpersonal skills. Must be able to work in a fast‐paced environment. Excellent communication, organization and collaborative skills are vital.
Candidate must have a BA/BS with 0‐2 years relevant lab experience. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Senior Research Associate, Biochemistry/Protein Purification
Responsibilities will include the expression and purification of target proteins from recombinant systems (bacterial, yeast, insect cells) as well as natural sources. The candidate should have familiarity with general protein production and optimization (small and large-scale fermentation) and expression analysis. Hands-on experience and scientific knowledge in protein purification techniques including (extract preparation, inclusion body preparation, clarification, filtration, buffer exchange) and column chromatography (AKTA FPLC operation, ion exchange, gel filtration, affinity, etc…) is essential. Additional skills required for protein analysis include SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, spectrophotometry, quantitation, modification and enzyme assays. Work will be carefully documented in detailed reports.
Candidate must have a BA/BS or MS in life sciences with 2-5 years relevant industrial experience. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Excellent communication, organization and collaborative skills are vital.
Scientist
We seek an experienced protein biochemist to work independently and contribute to all research programs including existing products, new product and method development and custom biochemistry services. Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques is expected. Ideally the candidate will have expertise in protein expression and production, FPLC and HPLC protein purification (gel filtration, hydrophobic interaction, reversed phase, affinity, ion exchange chromatographic techniques, ultrafiltration techniques, etc...), protein quantitation and analysis, protein modification and enzyme assays.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for detailed report writing. Additionally, the candidate should have highly proficient problem solving and organizational skills. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated and work well in an interactive and dynamic team environment. As the candidate is expected to mentor, train and direct the work of junior scientists, supervisory experience is preferred.
Requires a Ph.D in area of specialty, 2-4 years post-graduate experience in academia and/or industry. Experience in the field of ubiquitination is a plus.
Senior Scientist

Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques is expected. Ideally the candidate will have strong expertise in protein expression and production, FPLC and HPLC protein purification and method development, protein quantitation and analysis, protein modification and enzyme assays. Experience with fluorescent or FRET-based assays is a plus. This individual is expected to initiate, plan and execute critical scientific research and development projects. The ability to learn and implement novel experimental approaches or techniques is vital. The candidate will keep abreast with current scientific literature and make key contributions to the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills will be required for documentation of data and internal report writing, drafting of SOPs, slide and poster preparation and external representation of the company at conferences or with commercial partners. Strong organization and multitasking skills are essential to work well in our interactive and dynamic team environment. Additionally, the candidate should have highly proficient problem solving and analytical skills. The candidate is expected to mentor, train and direct the work of others, and thus supervisory experience is preferred.
Requires a Ph.D in the life sciences or biochemistry as an area of specialty with 2-5 years post-graduate experience in academia and/or industry. Experience in the field of ubiquitination or ubiquitin-like proteins is a plus.
